Historic Restoration of Jenners

Jenners was a department store in Edinburgh, Scotland, situated on Princes Street. It was Scotland’s oldest independent department store until the retail business was acquired by House of Fraser in 2005. It closed in December 2020 and was vacated by House of Fraser in May 2021.

Founded in 1838, Jenners is one of the oldest department stores in the world to continuously trade from the same site. After its original building was destroyed by a fire in 1892, architect William Hamilton Beattie designed the current building on Princes Street in the Victorian renaissance revival style.

Construction work has started on the restoration and conversion of the iconic Jenners building on Princes Street in Edinburgh. The former department store, which operated continuously from the same building from 1895 until its closure in 2020, will be reopen as a department store with a hotel on the upper floors
